My story...
I’m one
of those girls who’s dealt with my weight my whole life. I’ve never been skinny.
I’ve never felt like I was happy with my weight, even when I was modeling in
high school. I can’t even remember ever owning a pair of single digit size
pants.
So why now? Why make such drastic changes in my life before I have
a baby? Why lose a ton of weight with the possibility of gaining it all back?
This answer is so simple and yet so complicated. There are obvious
medical reasons for being healthy before getting pregnant, like the recent study
that showed that babies born to mothers who were obese or overweight (BMI-wise)
when they conceived are much more likely to deal with weight issues throughout
their life. There’s the British study that shows that Moms that eat a high-fat
diet before and during pregnancy may be putting their unborn children at a
higher risk for birth defects, and then there’s the pure fact that fertility
issues can get complicated in woman who are not at a healthy weight or don’t
regularly exercise. These things are HUGE. Staggering in fact, to the point
where I’m almost shocked that more people don’t pay attention to these
statistics.
If I don’t make these
changes today, I may be dooming my unborn child to weight and food issues that
have plagued my family for generations. So I’m here to put an end to this mess,
and I’m doing it one day at a time.
Weight loss sucks. It’s an everyday
struggle, but I keep reminding myself that these are lifestyle changes, not
quick fixes. This will not be an overnight transformation, but I'm now in my 30s and if I don’t do this now, I may miss my window of opportunity.
I’m
running now, and getting in some form of exercise at least 6 days a week. I
count my calories, and choose fruits and veggies as much as possible.
This is a hard story for me to write,
but it’s so necessary, and I hope one day you can share your story too.
